Frequently asked questions
What conditions does Shockwave treat?
Shockwave therapy treats various conditions such as tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, trigger points, calcifications in the tendons, chronic pain in the lower back or neck, frozen shoulder syndrome, lateral and medial epicondylitis (tennis elbow/golfer's elbow), muscle injuries and sprains, as well as osteoarthritis, among others.
How long does each session take?
Each session depends on the chronicity and/or severity of each patient and the area being treated. For example, a wrist injury would only take about 5-10 minutes, while a shoulder injury may take about 15 minutes.
Are there any contraindications?
Yes. As with any medical treatment, it is important to evaluate each patient's medical history to begin treatment and determine if they qualify. The main contraindications are active cancer, blood clotting disorders or anticoagulant use, prior corticosteroid injections for at least six weeks, active infections, and osteoporosis.
How many visits does the treatment last?
It's difficult to say specifically how many visits a patient may need, as it varies by injury, region, and patient medical condition. On average, a minimum of 5-8 visits are done.
Are there side effects?
Like any medical treatment, side effects can occur. Shockwave therapy, although not considered risky, may cause skin reddening and a tingling sensation in some patients. This is completely normal and disappears after a few minutes.
Is the treatment painful?
Do health plans cover therapy?
Unfortunately, no medical plan covers the therapy, except for some plans that may cover the patient if they are diagnosed with calcifications in the shoulder, if they meet certain additional requirements.
How much does the treatment cost?
It's difficult to specify the general cost as it varies by patient and region being treated. Treatment is charged by region/area; that is, the right knee is one region and the left knee is another region, and is charged separately. The only area charged as a single region is the back or lower neck. An average treatment can cost $534 ($89.98 per session, 6 total). There may be fewer or more sessions depending on the patient's condition. This cab be divided into two payments or payment plans according to the patient's budget.
Do you offer any type of financing?
Our office offers a couple types of payment plans for people with Social Security and a credit score above 700. You can get interest-free plans with monthly payments as low as $59. Otherwise, a payment plan will be tailored to your needs.
